MoSOTH Breakfast: Modern manliness in the #metoo movement

Date(s) - 01/13/2018
6:30 am - 8:30 am

Shepherd of the Hills

A few weeks ago Adam Driscoll came up and asked me about our next MoSOTH breakfast. It’s coming up on January

13th. He was wondering about our topic and he was thinking about the current #MeToo movement. He was thinking about the exposure of bad behavior from powerful men and the discussions the movement was inspiring. I had been thinking about the same things.

Together, along with a small group of MoSOTH leaders, we’ve decided to re-think our January breakfast. Instead of having former Governor Al Quie join us as our speaker, we are instead going to host a conversation about being a man of faith in the #metoo moment. It seems important for us as men of faith to discuss, maybe even confess, some of our shortcomings among trusted friends as we reflect on this moment. It seems important for us as men of faith to be concerned with how we are leading by example in our families, in our places of employment and our neighborhoods. Further, this moment in time seems to provide an excellent opportunity for us to examine the ways that we could join the many women who have led by voicing their experiences. And finally, while potentially difficult, this moment may provide opportunity for self-reflection and examination of the ways we interact with our wives, partners, colleagues, sisters, daughters and sisters-in-faith.

Together, we will watch a twenty-minute TED talk over breakfast and then engage in small group conversations around our tables. Adam Driscoll and Pastor Scott will lead the discussion. In addition to the discussion we will also have our usual breakfast, a song or two, and some time for coffee.

This is an excellent opportunity to come and think about what it means to be a man of faith in this #metoo moment amongst friends in an environment where we can be free to share our thoughts and ideas without fear of repercussion, since we’re all striving to improve, together.. January 13th – 6:30am. See you then.
